How to Not Get Ripped Off While Wedding Planning

"Weddings are such a rip off!" How many times have you heard this one before? While it's true you'll probably pay more for your wedding than you would hosting a family reunion at the same venue, it's never okay for a wedding vendor to totally take advantage of you. From really doing your research to checking those contracts twice, here's not to not get completely "ripped off" during the wedding planning process.

Hire an experienced wedding planner.

According to Florida-based wedding planner Aviva Samuels of Kiss The Planner, your wedding planner is going to be your best resource for keeping you within budget. "We have access to venues and vendors galore and know exactly what the price ranges are for each category," she says. "We immediately know if you're overpaying or if you're getting good value for your money." A great planner can help you negotiate a great deal as well, and thanks to their long-term relationships with vendors and venues you'll likely get added value for the same exact dollar amount others would pay.

Be wary of all-inclusive packages.

While they're definitely appealing in terms of simplifying the decision process, all-inclusive packages leave little to no room for pricing negotiations and the fine print of actual expected cost is not always clear, often leading to spending more than you budgeted for, warns wedding planner Marilisa Schachinger of Martel Event. "They also often require use of an exclusive caterer or floral designer which may not be your preferred aesthetic." Bottom line: do your research and get a pro (like your planner) to review that contract.

Always get a contract (and fully understand it before signing).

Make sure you get a contract that details exactly what you're getting, as well as the amount for the service and any payment plans, advises Samantha Gieseke, owner of Plan Our Day Houston. "Then read and review the entire contract to ensure you and the vendor are on the same page when it comes to payment, expectations, start and end times, delivery times (for photos) and the cancelation policy."

Ryan Seacrest Was The ‘Man Of Honor’ At His Sister’s Wedding

Ryan Seacrest wears many hats ― TV host, producer and radio personality to name a few. His most recent role, though, was “man of honor” at his sister’s wedding.

On Saturday, Meredith Seacrest, the executive director and COO of the Ryan Seacrest Foundation, tied the knot with Jimmy Leach, an executive at TOMS, in Mexico.

Ryan donned a bright blue suit from his own collection, while the bride wore Vera Wang. All members of the wedding party sported TOMS footwear, according to People.

“Congrats to Meredith on your amazing day and welcome to the family Jimmy!” Ryan wrote on Instagram.

The “American Idol” host was on top of his man of honor duties, from keeping tabs on the dress, to sweating with the bride through a pre-wedding workout.

Last year, Meredith asked Ryan to be her man of honor via a sweet poem, which he posted on Instagram.

“You’ve been by my side all of my life, and I wouldn’t want you anywhere else, when I become a wife,” she wrote. “I’m so lucky to have you as my brother, and couldn’t imagine celebrating with any other.”

Weddings in Wales: Couple’s wedding day ‘full of love’

If you tied the knot like Charlotte and Antony, we'd love to share in your celebrations .

To take part, just fill in the simple form at the end of this story. And if you're from the South Wales Echo area, you will be featured in our newspaper, too.

It doesn't matter where you married, as long as one of you is Welsh or you live in Wales.

The couple

Antony Kerslake, 30, from Tonypandy, and Charlotte Kerslake (nee Dupplaw), 27, from Maesteg.Antony works for Edwards Coaches and Charlotte is studying to become a nurse.

The venue

The ceremony took place at City Hall, Cardiff, on October 21, before a wedding breakfast and reception at Canada Lodge and Lake

How they met

The couple met in May 2010, when they were both working for Bridgend Ford.

The proposal

Charlotte had been hinting to Antony about what engagement rings she liked, even sending pictures to his phone so he couldn’t get it wrong.

Antony then bought Charlotte a ring and proposed in her bedroom before going out for a meal on October 5, 2013.

Charlotte said: “Antony had planned to do it later on during the meal but could not hold in his excitement and burst out with the big question.”

Soon after, the couple travelled to Paris to clip a “love lock” on Pont Notre Dame.

The wedding

Charlotte said the morning of the wedding was “chaos”.

All of the women were trying to get ready using only two bathrooms, Antony got a flat tyre when starting his car to collect his father-in-law, while many of the day’s flowers were lost when being transported to the venue in an open-top convertible.

But after those brief setbacks, everyone arrived safely at the venue and Charlotte said the day was “perfect”.

She added: “The speeches at the wedding breakfast were very emotional and full of love, particularly from Antony’s stepfather Simon and my brother Ross. Food and drinks were flowing and the party atmosphere building for the evening party to begin.”

More guests then arrived to end the day on a high, and the couple’s first dance was to L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole.

She said Edwards Coaches and the staff at the Canada Lodge and Lake were “very kind” for everything they did for the couple on the day, and photographer Philip Warren was “so flexible” working closely with CF40 Hairdressers, following the girls around from early morning to late at night making sure he caught every moment.

Charlotte added: “We’d like to say thank you to everyone who attended the wedding and evening and those who helped us arrange it and make it so special.”
