Dress lifeline for brides in need

Brides left stranded following the collapse of dress shop Dan Kerr are being offered a new lifeline. A wedding dress and three bridesmaids dresses are being made available free-of-charge to anyone in need. “They’ve been sitting on top of my wardrobe for nearly six years”, said Siobhan Haley, whose daughter Vivienne got married on July 9, 2011, at Christ Church in Fulwood. She added: “I saw the article about Dan Kerr in the Lancashire Post and I contacted my daughter, asking if she would mind donating them to a worthy cause. “She said there was no problem at all. So they’re here, ready if someone is in need. “Vivienne looked lovely in the dress and I’m sure that another bride of a similar size would do too.” All the dresses have been professionally dry-cleaned. The wedding dress is a size 10, in a creamy white colour with beading detail. It was made to fit Vivienne who is 5ft 8 and is offered with a silk shawl.

The bridesmaids dresses are all around size 12, floor-length, in a turquoise blue colour. Dan Kerr, which had a shop in Preston and in Blackpool, went into administration on Tuesday, April 18, with directors saying they were no longer able to compete against the internet and bridal warehouses. Corporate recovery firm Robson Kay said brides-to-be will be able to collect their dresses from its warehouse in South Manchester, with priority given to those whose weddings are soonest. But those whose dresses and accessories had yet to arrive, or had paid for alterations, must make a financial claim to proposed administrators Leonard Curtis.
