This beautiful country house has been named the best wedding venue in Wales
Porthmawr Country House in Crickhowell has been named wedding venue of the year in Wales.
It is set on the site of a 15th century fortified manor house with a gatehouse dating back to 1480 and grounds approaching three acres, and is a landmark and a principal feature of Crickhowell.
It has amazing 360º views of the Usk basin, Brecon Beacons, Llangattock Escarpment (a nature reserve with one of the largest cave systems in Europe) to the south and spectacular views of the Black Mountains immediately bounding the north of the site.
It's also really secluded though and is set behind a 12ft high castle stonewall, making it a peaceful, romantic setting for any bride's big day.
Owner Geoff Powell said: "We are all very proud of being named wedding venue of the year and would like to thank everyone who voted for us. At Porthmawr we love creating the perfect and exclusive wedding weekends for our happy couples to reflect their individuality, and we are thrilled that the effort our team puts in to the bespoke wedding events has been rewarded like this. It’s an honour."
What sort of wedding can I have there?
Porthmawr Country House is licensed for civil weddings, with a choice of four different areas, each with their own distinct charm, character and status; as expected of this Regency Mansion House, which is 5-star graded by Visit Wales.
You could choose a Medieval Gatehouse with 530 years of history where Charles 1st once stayed. Alternatively, a beautifully restored Regency Dining room or the Celtic style banqueting room with a wealth of oak and stone.
Porthmawr Manor House becomes your home for your event, when you take exclusive use of the whole site and its three acre grounds. This gives 12 bedrooms over a three day period where at least 32 guests can stay in comfort and with the grandeur of this special location.
