CBS Sports zooms in on football wedding story at Wagner College

This morning's football practice at Wagner College had a little more pizzazz than usual.

A television crew from CBS Sports was on Grymes Hill producing a story about head coach Walt Hameline's acrobatic schedule-juggling because of daughter Kelly's upcoming wedding.

Hameline called his Monmouth counterpart, Kevin Callahan, about switching the date of their game from Sept. 20 (the date of the wedding) to Sept. 13 (Monmouth won last Saturday's showdown 21-16 at West Long Branch, N.J.)

Callahan, an old friend, crunched the numbers and saved Hameline from a monumental family predicament.

Wagner is idle this weekend which clears up the cluttered calendar for Saturday's wedding.

"It's nice for my daughter, it's good stuff," said Hameline. "I guess it's good publicity for the college too."

Hameline said the team's bye week means that Thursday's practice will be the final one until next Monday as the players get the weekend off before returning to prepare for the Lafayette game. He added that he'll appreciate the brief break as he focuses on the wedding.

"To be honest with you, thank God for my wife when it comes to the wedding because if I didn't have her I wouldn't know what was going on," said Hameline.

Spoken like a true Father of the Bride.

Wagner assistant athletic director of media relations John Beisser said CBS Sports indicated the feature will run between 3-4 p.m. during Saturday's pre-game show prior to the Alabama-Florida national broadcast.
