Kerry Washington stuns in plunging top as she makes her red carpet return just seven weeks after baby's birth

She gave birth to daughter Isabelle Amarachi just seven weeks ago.

Yet Kerry Washington looked back to her radiant best as she made her return to the red carpet on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old actress cut an impressive figure in a plunging black dress and vivid orange heels at the Women In Film Crystal + Lucy Awards at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

The non-profit organization Women In Film honours extraordinary women in the entertainment industry at their annual benefit gala, the Crystal + Lucy Awards.

Kerry was honoured with the Lucy Award for Excellence in Television, while actresses Cate Blanchett, Eva Longoria, Rose Byrne, and Jennifer Lee will also be recognised with their own awards.

And it looked as if the actress could barely contain her excitement as she took to the red carpet.

A slick of hot red lipstick added a splash of colour to her complexion, while a coat of smokey eyeshadow defined her eyes.

The new mom gave a boost to her 5ft4in height in a pair of vivid orange heels.

With her hair styled down in loose and romantic waves, the Scandal star did not shy away from showing off a bit of her cleavage with a plunging neckline.

Meanwhile, Eva Longoria did little to tame Kerry's excitement as she wrapped an arm around the stunner.

The Django Unchained actress flashed a wide grin as the 39-year-old Desperate Housewives star cosied up beside her.

She later found her way besides Max Mara Global Ambassador Nicola Maramotti, who towered over the petite actress in a light blue dress that draped along her figure.

Making the most of a child-free night, the star also took time to speak with legendary actress Diahann Carroll.

The Dynasty star cut a youthful figure in a demure black dress that hugged her curves.

Kerry was certainly not the only star to turn heads, as Maggie Gyllenhaal bared her shoulders in a floral halter gown.

The Secretary actress highlighted her complexion with a slick of pink lipstick, along with golden eyeshadow.

Eva also grabbed herself some attention in a snug white tank top that tied at her waist, teamed with a pair of high-waisted trousers.

The Desperate Housewives star was recognised at the event with the Norma Zarky Humanitarian Award.

Cate Blanchett - who was honoured with the Crystal Award for Excellence in Film - looked angelic in a white gown that cascaded in layers.

The Academy Award nominee wore her blonde hair in a chic updo, and opted for a natural palette of make-up consisting of minimal mascara and pink lipstick.

Fellow Australian Rose Bryne - who was given the Women In Film Max Mara Face of the Future award - shimmered in a glimmering blue jumper teamed with a simple chain choker.

Host Tracee Ellis Ross added a splash of colour with a strapless coral dress that bared her shoulders.

The Girlfriends actress was expressive and animated while taking to the podium to host the event.

Rose looked emotional as she accepted the Women In Film Max Mara Face of the Future award.
